A Beautiful Basement Theater

Posted By: Jessica Garrett Categories: Furniture, Interior Design
A basement space is an ideal host for a TV/movie room. Basements are typically dark and cozy, and create the perfect ambiance for curling up and relaxing while watching a film. So, why not take the idea of creating a TV room to the next level? Think: home theater room. Sure, going out to see a movie is fun every once-in-a-while, but it is also expensive and requires planning – that is, if there is anything exciting to see in the first place. Why pay money to sit in an uncomfortable seat watching a movie you’re not crazy about when there is a much better option? Home theaters are accessible, comfortable, inviting, and allow you to enjoy the theater experience on a more intimate level, watching whatever movie you want. While not the best option to combine with egress window wells. they are real attractions to guests and potential buyers should you ever decide to sell your home. Though, after installing one, you may never want to move.

In order for a home theater to be worth the planning and cost that comes with installation, it needs to be done right. For an idea of how this can be done, look no further than the work of Ivory Homes. Ivory Homes built and designed the Sorrento Traditional home that was included in this year’s Utah Valley Parade of Homes. The Sorrento Traditional is beautiful inside and out and includes many noteworthy attributes. Our favorite, of course, is the basement theater. This home theater is chic while still bursting with accessibility and comfort. The dark walls and tiered levels create a theater-like ambiance while the seating reminds you that  you are still lounging in your own family room. It combines the novelty and comfort that should accompany any successful home theater. Additionally, consider adding an egress window well in the anteroom to increase the lighting contrast between rooms.

The variety of seating is noteworthy. Regardless of if you are alone, with your sweetheart, or with a group, you want to be able to enjoy the theater just the same. Individual seats combined with a couch and lots of floor space allow you to feel comfortable watching a movie whether alone curled up with a bowl of popcorn or with a group of friends. I especially appreciate that each seat gets its own pillow. Anywhere you sit (or lay), you’re going to get a comfortable spot with a good view.

Notice the red usher’s theater rope placed right next to the stairs. How amazing is that? Consider adding other novelties like a popcorn machine or drink dispenser, or even decorate the walls with your favorite movie posters. With just a few additions like this, you can make your home theater experience truly special.Having a basement theater room would be a dream. Having a basement theater room like this one? Well, that’s taking it to a new level. In addition to improving your basement with aspects such as a new egress window well, adding a basement theater room is sure to make your home the new gathering place on Friday nights. All photos are courtesy of the Utah Valley Parade of Homes.
